Ben Badler with a really positive outlook on Willie Calhoun. Says the D is lagging, but has taken tremendous strides to improve on it. It will be interesting to see how the org decides to use him. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/ben-badler-dodgers-willie-calhoun/#XFrDcXtBP2ofs0sM.97
Learned is not the same as smart. A lot of people confuse someone who reads/studies a lot with someone who is smart. It may actually be the other way around. Some people need to read/study more than others to 'get it'. I know I seem to have needed to read a lot just to figure out that I wasn't very smart.
Apologies if this has already been posted. http://www.dodgersnation.com/next-line-dodgers-pitching-prospect-walker-buehler/2017/05/23/
Julio pitching tonight for OKC, hopefully those walks will come down with a little work with Matt Herges. Not blaming Honeycutt but maybe a different perspective will help.
Box score for Brock Stewart was awful last night as he only last 1/3 of an inning and faced 7 hitters. He was only supposed to go two, but the inning got prolonged by 2 errors, a weak grounder down the 3B line that got over the bag and an IF hit. Also had 1 K and a BB. The Prospectus guy there said it was one of those HiA games where the whole team lets down a P. Said his stuff looked great though. 2 broken bats, sat 95-93 with the FB, slider working 90-91 with bite and still commanding the zone well. Great to hear.
Walker Buehler with some milestones reached today. 1st time to 5 innings and 1st time throwing 70 pitches!! 5 innings, 1 ER, 2 hits, 6 K's and ONLY 1 walk. Topped out at 100 3 times and averaged 96 on the day with his fastball and a 83 MPH average on his breaking ball.
Dodgers RHP Walker Buehler, Double-A Tulsa: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 70 pitches, 49 strikes -- The Dodgers' No. 5 prospect crossed a couple thresholds Sunday, completing five innings and reaching 70 pitches for the first time in his career. Those accomplishments would've been notable enough for the 22-year-old right-hander, who underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2015, but he was also incredibly effective as only a solo homer by Corpus Christi outfielder Jack Mayfield kept the outing from being scoreless. Buehler is finding Double-A (2.70 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 20 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings) a little trickier than Class A Advanced (1.10 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 27 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings) over similar samples, but an abnormally high .381 BABIP-against has had something do with that. He's still struck out 29.4 percent of the batters he's faced at the higher level, and his starts remain a must-follow, especially as he's allowed to go deeper into games.
Alex Verdugo is on a bit of a tear right now. Hit is first HR of the season yesterday and hit a doubled twice this week(his first XBH since April 15!). He has walked more than he has K'd and is slashing at .317/.396/.793. What I have been told is that he is hitting the ball hard, but just right at folks, hence the lack of XBH's. If the team finally decides it has seen enough of Puig's bat, this is probably the guy to fill in long term in the event that Joc doesn't come back soon. Even without the HR's, his bat generates a lot of base hits and his D in RF would not be at the level of Puig, but he is only a slight step down as he too possess's a ++ Arm.
