Saw an article on the Dodgers wanting to bring back Turner, Jansen, Hill and Utley, got me thinking about what makes the most sense this offseason.

I think as of now I'd resign Turner and Hill for whatever, let Utley leave and offer Jansen arb and sign Chapman.

Yeah, which means if he was a FA today he would not be valued as high as what the D-Bags paid.
Which also means that the Bags would have to kick in some money and not even get back fair value in terms of prospects.
They could have Willie Cahoun, Brock Stewart, Walker Buehler, one of our many catcher prospects, and Scott Van Slyke.

Utley is one of those guys that brings a certain seriousness to the club. I think we need him, but at the right cost.

I agree about Turner. No questions asked he gets what he deserves and we bring him back.
I would also sign Melancon or Chapman and offer arbitration to Kenley.
At best we would have two closer types. At worst we have one to replace Kenley plus a free draft pick.
Hill for sure if you can get him on a 1 or 2 year deal.
And that goes for Utley too. A 1 year deal like he is currently on should suffice.
We should try to upgrade at 2B though. Utley should be a backup/PH/PR type at this stage in his career.
Howie Kendrick could be the starter but he and Utley arent a good splits combo since Utley is subpar against lefties.
IMO Kendrick is not a guy who you go into a season as your starting LF if you can help it.
You need more power from that spot. Or something else. If he doesnt hit for power he better be a base stealer.
Kendrick looks to be a backup type too on a championship caliber team. Unless he can still play 2B defensively.
But Neil Walker is out there at 2B this FA.

I love utley. I want him to manage the team after he retires.

Fine with Utley for 1 year
    Turner for 4 years
Jansen I could take or leave. I worry about what seems like a deterioration of his stuff at times and the heart issues. If they bring him back I really hope they try to pair him with a Chapman or *sigh* Melancon
Hill on a 2 year deal would be interesting, but then 2017 is Kershaw, Hill, McCarthy, Maeda, Kazmir and Wood, and we know none of those guys are injury risks. Watch, all 6 remain healthy while both De Leon and Urias are in AAA like "WTF!?!"

DeLeon literally had one bad start that inflated his #'s and that was it. Not buying the results weren't spectacular. They were good enough

Urias is definitely on the mound next year regardless of the other veterans.
Kershaw, Maeda and Urias are locks for next year. If Hill comes back he is a lock. Which leaves one spot for McCarthy/Kazmir/Wood/Ryu/Stripling/Stewart.
IMO they should not count on any of those and just pencil in JDL from the start as the 5th guy in the rotation.
All the previous injured starters can become relievers, trade bait, injury reserves in AAA, or released.

They won't do that and will have Urias/JDL probably as like 6th/7th on the depth chart which means they'll get plenty of time in the bigs. You don't set up a 5 man rotation and release the rest cause you'd be silly to think you won't need 8-12+ starters in a full season. Knowing the way this FO thinks, they'll roll out there with 5 veterans and let the long baseball season force them into calling up from the minors

What? When he first came back from the second injury he wasn't pitching deep into games and wasn't having the results in the command department. He was still avoiding hits, but reports were his velocity was down and the hits he was giving up were hard. It is actually a reason that he dropped in prospect rankings. It wasn't until July 6th that he got into the 6th inning in a AAA game. The really shitty start came later and that was not a part of the "not spectacular" showings I was talking about as he had been on a roll. When the team was calling on Urias and Stewart, they were both pitching deeper into games at the time. Right around Mid-July was probably when he was ready and by that point, the 40 man was nice and full heading into the trade deadline. As a matter of fact, Urias was called upon while De Leon was still on the DL and Stewart was used before De Leon had pitched past the 4th inning after his second injury.

They're going to need to find about another 50-60 innings for De Leon too if they were to be really comfortable having him on the opening day roster. Only at 86 innings so for this year after 114 last year.

Oh man I hadn't noticed he's only thrown 86, wow. After 114 last year yeah he should be up to 150 this year

He's gonna be 25 next year! Should really be using his 25-28 seasons as a 200 inning pitcher in the bigs

Here's to the Cubs hopefully ravaging the Gnats, who will probably like every minute of it by the way.

I doubt that Urias wont be in the rotation from day 1.
Right now he is probably the guy we trust the most to make his start and throw a good game not named Kershaw.
