Lol straight up. it wouldn't shock me if the title of the thread eventually sparked the forum's free agent freak out again. it should probably be moved to the rumors section.

Veteran outfielder Nelson Cruz has agreed to a multiyear deal with the Seattle Mariners, pending a physical, a league source confirmed to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
The two sides reached agreement on a four-year, $57 million deal, according to a report by Dominican Republic newspaper El Caribe.
Cruz, 34, led the majors with 40 home runs and finished third in the American League with 108 RBIs.
Cruz signed a one-year, $8 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Feb. 24. He was suspended for 50 games on Aug. 5, 2013 for his involvement with Biogenesis.

nice L-R-L they have with Cano-Cruz-Seager now. Seattle likely out on Kemp..Baltimore probably in even moreso now.

Britton? a reliever? if you're getting him in addition to a Wieters and a young starter like Gausman or Bundy..OK. but you can't just ask for Wieters and a reliever for Kemp. especially just based on the Dodgers signing his brother and Britton being a Valley boy. Lol

in a perfect world the Dodgers could send Kemp, Ethier and a load of cash to Baltimore for Wieters and Gausman ( or Bundy). but Bundy, even after coming back from TJ surgery, still has more upside than Gausman, so i doubt Baltimore would let him go.

the Dodgers' platoon in LF was successful enough last year and Zaidi is a proponent of platoons. if Crawford and SVS can again combine to hit near .300, have 20HRs and play solid defense ( Crawford of course stole 23 bags last year to add on)..that's enough out of LF. mix in a little Guerrero in LF if Crawford or SVS miss time and you'd still have the potential of a decent bat at that spot. Wieters would be a big catch at a crucial position if everything's fine with his elbow..which Dr. Andrews says it is so far.

The Dodgers, like the Yankees, are in serious pursuit of left-hander Andrew Miller. He would greatly improve LAD bullpen.

According to Olney, we're making a serious run at Miller, too.

said it from the beginning..if you're the Dodgers, you cannot let Miller go to the Cardinals or Giants. it cannot happen. just the threat of that happening has to push you to sign the talented lefty. at the very least you have to get involved and drive up the price.

That article has some good tidbits about trade talks with Mariners about Kemp

It says that the Dodgers are insisting on one or T. Walker or James Paxton in the deal and that the Mariners do feel they can afford him.

Article is interesting cause it seems like the first time someone is actually showing us an idea of what the Dodgers want in return rather then just people calling...

    • The Mariners also continue to discuss a possible trade with the Dodgers to acquire outfielder Matt Kemp, who is under contract for five more years at $107 million. The sticking point in such a deal appears to be Los Angeles’ insistence that either right-hander Taijuan Walker or lefty James Paxton be included in any deal. The Mariners believe they have sufficient payroll flexibility to add Kemp even after signing Cruz and reaching a new deal with Seager, but the Dodgers are now drawing increased interest in Kemp from the Orioles.

    lol bowden
kinda feel dirty posting this after @doyerfan posted something credible/sensible
but since this thread includes crazy thoughts...

funny that bowden mentions how the deal would (allegedly) help the m's and dodgers, but says nothing about how it would help the brewers or why they would even contemplate parting with braun...

ESPN’s Jim Bowden Proposes Three-Team Trade Involving Kemp
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation

If there’s anything that can be deduced thus far in the offseason it’s that the Los Angeles Dodgers’ outfield is likely to look different by the 2015 season. It was reported weeks ago the team was shopping Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp and since that point, Kemp’s name has routinely been included in trade talks.

Teams reportedly interested in the right fielder have ranged from the Seattle Mariners to the San Diego Padres and as of Sunday, the Baltimore Orioles as well. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman admitted the team would benefit from trading an outfielder and reports indicate if Kemp is moved, it would require plenty in return.

Involving one of the teams reportedly interested in Kemp, ESPN’s Jim Bowden proposed the following three-team trade:

Dodgers acquire: James Paxton from Seattle; Jean Segura from Milwaukee.
Mariners acquire: Ryan Bruan from Milwaukee.
Brewers acquire: Matt Kemp from Los Angeles; Miller from Seattle.
Bowden believes the trade would net the Dodgers a talented pitcher and fill their shortstop need:

"The Mariners could offer them one of the best young left-handed starters in the game in Paxton to put in their rotation behind Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu. If they could pick up Segura in a three-way deal with the Brewers, they would have their stopgap shortstop until top prospect Corey Seager is ready for the majors (or is moved to third base)."
While the Dodgers most glaring need is at shortstop given Hanley Ramirez’s departure for Boston, they are also without a fifth starter in the rotation. Interestingly enough, that hasn’t exactly stopped them from reportedly exploring trade options for Dan Haren.

Bowden’s proposed trade benefits the Mariners as they’re known to be searching for a right-handed bat and Kemp replacing Ryan Braun in Milwaukee is an interesting wrinkle. With winter meetings in Orlando set to begin in just over one week, trade talks will likely begin to heat up.

yea, you have to get one of those young arms. i mean Iwakuma is good right now, but he's 33yrs old. i don't think you say no to Iwakuma if DJ Peterson is coming with him though, but why not push for the young guns?

a few reports say that the Mariners are still looking for a outfield bat, even after signing Cruz.

but yea, Seattle has TV money coming into play. can't sleep on them money-wise..they are a pretty big market up there and they did splurge for Cano and on Seager/Felix.

Kemp's contract seems to be somewhat helping him rise above the rest of the pool of available outfielders..which makes sense. i guess you're more willing to pay the price in talent given up if you know the player is locked up for the next 5yrs. who knows how Upton or Cespedes will like pitcher-friendly Seattle? gotta have a big market club that's willing to play ball though more than likely.

Seattle, IMO, really has no room to be foolish here. they had one of the best rotations in baseball last year and a pretty good bullpen. if they can walk away with Kemp/Cruz joining Cano and Seager + keep a rotation of Felix/Iwakuma/Paxton (or Walker)/Elias they could be WS worthy next year anyway..even after giving up one of Paxton or Walker.

if i'm LAD i'm sitting on Walker ( or Paxton) and DJ Peterson. fuck it. Kemp could put them over the top..see how much they want it. at the end of the day, if they don't budge, if Kivlehan or Marlette is who they come away with along with one of Paxton or Walker..that's good too.

We will regret, massively, trading Kemp.

Losing him and Hankey in one offseason will be a huge hit.

To be honest, I'm a little concerned about moving Kemp. Yes, I would be ecstatic to get his contract off the books, and yes I'd be happy that we would be much better defensively, but that's going to be a huge hit to the offense if he and Hanley are gone.

Obviously if we get a nice package back from a team, like Walker or Paxton from Seattle, that would be great. I'd still be very concerned with the offense going in to next year though.

I don't get it. Especially since he proved to be our best Righty bat in the second half. Why not cut salary by sending out one of our overpriced BAD players? Especially while we still have a solid shot of competing. If we lose Kemp our offense will be mediocre and would get raped against LH SP

Dodgers could play next year without Kemp and Hanley without making any trades at all.

I think there's little doubt that Kemp is the best of Kemp/Crawford/Ethier, but his defense (at least statistically) was really bad last year, and before he got on a roll in the second half of last season he had a terrible 2 year span starting mid-2012. I know he was battling injuries, but what's to say that doesn't continue. Add everything up and the FO might not value Kemp much more than Crawford/Ethier, yet he's the only one of the three who can actually be traded for value. For Crawford/Ethier we would have to eat most of their contracts and wouldn't get any good players in return.

I don't necessarily agree with trading Kemp, but I get it.
