    • A decision on whether to activate catcher A.J. Ellis, who has been on the disabled list since spraining his right ankle during the celebration for Josh Beckett's no-hitter on May 25, will be made Friday, according to Mattingly.

Not sure where to put this but here it is...

Justin Turner: The NL’s hottest hitter

    By Cary Osborne
If we said that arguably the hottest hitter in the National League over the last four weeks was a Dodger, who would you guess that Dodger would be?
    Justin Turner — of course.
On May 21, Turner took over the third base job with Juan Uribe going on the disabled list. Turner went 0-for-4 that day. But from May 22 on, though, no NL has a higher batting average.
Turner’s .373 (22-for-59) is fifth in baseball in that span, with Cleveland’s Lonnie Chisenhall (.429), Texas’ Adrian Beltre (.410), Minnesota’s Danny Santana (.397) and Texas’ Alex Rios (.392) ahead.
In that span, Turner has raised his batting average from .218 to .285. He has five two-hit games in his last six games.
It doesn’t stop there. The utilityman, who was a non-roster invite to Spring Training, is third in the NL in on-base percentage (.431) and seventh in slugging (.576) in that stretch.
For the month of June, the 29-year-old leads the Dodgers in WAR (0.5) and is 15th in the league, according to Fangraphs.

    he opted for surgery...

Report: Dodgers' Billingsley out for season
By The Sports Xchange -- 2 minutes ago

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley has decided to have elbow surgery to repair a partial tear of his flexor
tendon, a procedure that will prevent him from pitching this season, the Los Angeles Time reported Monday.

Billingsley had been hoping to pitch this season after recovering from Tommy John surgery. However, he was diagnosed
with the flexor tendon tear last week after experiencing elbow soreness during his minor league rehab assignment.

Billingsley should be ready to throw again in three months, according to the Times report, but will not be ready to pitch
in a game for six months. If he has no setbacks, he should be ready for the start of the 2015 season.

Because of his health issues, the Dodgers may decline his $14 million option for next season and pay him a $3 million
    buyout.

Billingsley has not pitched in a major league game since April 15, 2013.

Thanks Irish. Obviously it did get by me.
Pretty fucking sad for the dude. I have to say, in spite of all the "ballsless" name calling, I liked him and thought him a genuine talent once.
    A bad break for sure.
I guess he'll never be a LAD again.
    Or maybe a player anywhere.

Remember all the same kinda shit against Broxton? But he legitimately did blow up when we needed him most...and now, he has a miniscule ERA, and is virtually untouchable. If he keeps it up, and gets enough innings in, he may re-write the record book.
I know we can't get near him when he's on the mound.
Broxton/Chapman probably right now, best set-up/closer in BB.

Sucks but he can probably pinch hit just not play in the field and it's debatable that he really does play in the field.

We need to play an AL team in an AL park just to make him the DH.

    per jayson stark/espn...
    • Several teams report the Dodgers are telling them they'll listen right now on every one of their outfielders except Yasiel Puig. And that's a potential storyline to watch, in a market incredibly thin on bats. But those clubs believe the Dodgers are really just trying to lay the groundwork to deal Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier over the winter, when they'll be marketed as excellent alternatives to one of the weakest free-agent outfield groups in years. (Top of that class: Colby Rasmus, Michael Morse and Melky Cabrera.)

Another big Cuban player has defected. Corner OF with HUGE power (70 on the 20 to 80 scale). Could be an interesting target for the club. With word that each of Kemp, Ethier and Crawford are available, I am interested to see if we pursue him at all in an effort to start getting younger and cheaper in the OF in the next year or two.
