That 100 national championships thing is great until you realize 90 (roughly) of them were in womens water polo, softball, underwater basket weaving , and the like. I hate both schools, but unless your championships come in Baseball, Basketball or Football, who cares?
Just because more people pay attention to a different sport doesn't mean the others don't matter. It matters for pride, money, research, attention, and contributing to an all around better school. And by the way, out of 109, 37 come from womens sports (which I'm pointing out cause you implied those are inferior). A lot come from olympic sports and sports that have professional leagues. Just cause these aren't nationally televised sports doesn't mean no one cares. UCLA has the best overall sports program in the nation. hater!
It's not just women's sports, i'm talking about golf (and I go to a school that has a pretty damn good golf program), volleyball and tennis. The only reason those exist at most schools is because Football, and in some cases basketball turn a huge profit. So don't tell me all sports are equal.
I never said the sports are equal, they're obviously not, but at the end of the day it equals a Division 1, NCAA trophy which UCLA has 109 of. Why wouldn't golf, volleyball and tennis matter? You can go on and make money in the olympics with volleyball and as a pro with tennis and golf. Winning a championship in say, tennis and golf, you establish yourself as a top program to come, join the program, then launch yourself and make loads of money as a pro in golf/tennis. I'm not saying lots of people, including myself, follow and attend all the sports on campus, thats far from true. But the point is UCLA has 109 championships in sports that universities across the nation participate in and put effort into being the best, which would equal a championship. If no one really cared and these trophies didn't mean anything, countless schools would drop the lost money on these programs. Just because more people care, watch, and pay for other sports doesn't mean the school can't pride itself in all the sports they do win. One trophy might come in something more talked about and profitable, but the other ones come in sports that others care about also.
Yeah, can't say much there. UCLA winning one was a long time coming, I couldn't believe they'd never won. Hopefully one of many to come with Savage.
Alabama is going to win 12 of the next 18 NCAA College Football Championships, as long as Nick Saban stays there.
not going to deny that sc has had some great baseball teams/players over the years and rod dedeaux was one of the greatest coaches of all-time and a class act
USC Baseball hasn't done shit over the last decade tho, really embarrassing considering the history of the program should be an easy recruiting tool Hopefully it picks up soon But at least I have Cal State Fullerton to root for
my HS AP Gov/Econ teacher played for Rod (also won most hustle award) and told many great stories about him. Definitely a great man
Keep telling yourself that. 80,000 people don't show up to watch a chess match. Most of the sports that ucla have won titles in have cost the school money. No one shows up for that crap. Maybe some frat guys trying to bang the chicks playing.
