I think FedEx has potential to become a decent hitter, but that K rate is just pathetic.

Although AJ had a down year, I'd rather stick with him than overpay for McCann or even Pierzynski.

I'm not sure if AJ had a down year or last year was an up year... you gotta see track record, and there's reason he was never a real prospect... sure he works the counts well and gets his walks, but teams also noticed that...

but I'm OK with his .260 AVG if he plays solid defense and frames pitches well, and he hasnt...

His hitting in the postseason offered some hope IMO.

I agree with you in theory.
But unfortunately, I think the reality is, to use iconic phrasing from the play "Beckett"; "will no one rid me of this troublesome priest...uh...pitcher"??
If he's still willing to pitch, I'm sure they'll give him a shot. the guy had awesome filthy stuff once.

Knew someone would be a smart ass.

I'm just saying that I think he'll have better offensive numbers next year.

No. 39 was so damn good, it made your head spin. Oh, if only the likes of him would return to us.
And another great one, who played in Campy's time and beyond, was Yogi... who was the NYY enemy.
But he is getting an award for his meritorious service and bravery he showed in WWII very soon. He was also the Nazi's enemy.
He volunteered for something called the "rocket boats"....they had rockets on them, .30 caliber machines guns and twin .50's...souped up like PT boats, they went in before any of the LSTs or other beachcraft at Normandy on D Day, to draw fire from German positions , so the aircraft could see where they were. It was an insane, wildass thing to volunteer for, but he liked the fact that it was called "rocket boats" and reminded him of Flash Gordon, so he volunteered. I kid you not. Typical Yogi. He was on the twin 50, and he said they shot down the first a/c, too.
Bob Feller, who walked away from a $ 100, 000 contract (long dust back in the day for a hurler) to join the service, hated Yogi.
When Yogi asked him why, he told him that "he had no respect for anyone who didn't serve their country". No one knew what Yogi did, he never spoke of it. When Yogi told him he was there on DDay and in what capacity, they became lifelong friends. Feller died 3 years ago.
I met him at a golf outing for a charity where I was bartending at a country club. he told me to give him a drink of Vodka/rx, exactly 3 ounces. No more, no less. When I gave him the drink, he asked me , did I "measure it real good"? I told him a used a shot glass, and it should be fine. I don't think he believed me, but did autograph a BB later on in the evening for me, and I thought how quirky he still was.
Still crazy after all these years....
    He's 88 now.

^Great post, BZ. On a related note, I actually met Bob Fellar. This was when I was a kid back in the 70's. My home town of Bellingham, WA had a Dodgers single A club - and I went to Bob Fellar Night with my dad. The pre-game festivities were great. He came out onto the field - a robust man with a full head of white-gray hair. He then took the mound and blew down the city council, one after another. Nobody could lay a stick on him. Still throwing heat. After the game, he signed autographs for about the whole stadium. Bob Fellar was before my time, but I knew he was the legendary HOF fireballer. Pretty cool to have had his autograph - particularly living in a place like that, way up there in the corner of the country. I say HAD - God knows what my mother did with my baseball box. Yeah, I shouldn't have left it when I moved away from home.

The starting 9 and pitching staff as is, is a paper champion. Injuries have been spoken about a lot and are unknowns with all teams. The teams that rise to the top and succeed in the playoffs do so with the guys on the 40 man roster who plug into the active roster when needed. The dodgers (as well as my yankees, though your starters are better) are too thin here. If I'm running the dodgers I spend my efforts looking for role players

Not being a smart ass, just saying that small samples are just that, small samples... You can count them for AJ and ignore them for Kershaw... That called being bias...

Shit, that might actually not be a bad deal considering how good their development system is.
