This is going to get completely blown out of proportion, can already tell. Seriously, nothing to see here. The guy put on 16 lbs over last seasons start weight. Let's wait and see how it plays out the first couple weeks of the season before making a deal of this.

He's eating better than he ever ate in his life, and foods he could never get before. Hopefully he figures out he can't eat like Uribe and play like Puig.

Puig can eat whatever and weigh whatever so long as he hits .320 +

Nobody ever gave a shit about Kirby Puckett's waistline.

But if Puig starts shitting out some weakass .260 BA them I'm first in line to bitch slap him and call him puerco Puig

I predict another hot spring and no one cares about a big fast 23 year old filling out some.

    Much ado about nothing

    Puig returns to field
    Mattingly downplays weight
    By Ken Gurnick | MLB.com -- 30 minutes ago

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Yasiel Puig returned to the field Saturday after missing two days of workouts with a bruised leg, which somehow got the media to asking Dodgers manager Don Mattingly about his right fielder's weight.

Mattingly said Puig reported to camp around 245 pounds, or 20 pounds heavier than he ended last season, but the manager said he wasn't overly worried, sort of.

    Puig or Pig?

"Honestly, I'm not that concerned," said Mattingly. "I've been in a lot of camps, you watch everybody. He ended up at 225 and maybe that was too light. Anything with Yasiel is a big deal. We understand that. I don't think there's a huge alarm going off. You just pay attention."

Mattingly said he still intends to bat Puig leadoff most of the time because "he's dynamic, and quite honestly, he hasn't proven himself to be an RBI guy. You need to be calm in those situations to hit in the middle. You watch Adrian [Gonzalez] and Hanley [Ramirez], they're calm and that's probably experience. Up top, he'll get more at-bats. I think he likes batting there."

    Get Puiggy!!!

Mattingly said he also plans to play Puig and Andre Ethier in more positions than just right field and center field, respectively. Ethier figures to be the primary center fielder for as long as Matt Kemp is sidelined.

Is he the new reverse Sandoval ?
Are you kidding...26 pounds is nothing?
Yeah OK, in Obesity World. The guy was never "thick"....that's BS. He was huge on top and small waisted...maybe thick everywhere except where he got thick over off season.
I could see 10....maybe 15- but 26? Fucking ridiculous, I don't care what he ate in Cuba.
Merely a continuation of his firmly established personality...I hope someone gets a hold of this talented kid and straightens him out , on all accounts.
100 MPH in urban areas? 26 pounds ovverweight in ST his 2nd year in the Show? I guess this guy will have people making excuses for him no matter what jaw dropping stupidity he comes up with... laughable.
Does anyone really think that much weight gain will have no effect on this kid ?
BTW, Trout was that way when he stepped up to the plate for his first AB...there's a difference between that and gaining it over winter.
Somehow I see a trend...and Puig on the RedSox to take over "thick" Big Papi's spot in a few years...how's that for overblowing it?
But no way 26 extra means nothing...not on a planet with gravity.

I think it's more telling about his conditioning that he's already been hurt twice this spring with a leg and a shoulder. The weight is literally just the icing on the cake

Edit to that post, didn't initially read the leg thing was from a foul ball but not working out for a couple days certainly won't help him drop a few pounds.

    Hey Zeus, take a knee.

Where the fuck did you get the idea he was doing 100 in an urban area. Do urban areas have 70 mph speed limits? If they do I'm not walking my dog there.

Yeah, I think it won't have an effect. Last year he REPORTED at 245, so this year he's 6 pounds over that. He ENDED the season at 225. I'm not concerned at all, not in the least. Besides that he is young, he can pick it up and drop it like you do pastrami sandwiches. No effect. None. Bookmark it.

    hey do m
Hey, do me a favor...don't reply to my posts anymore. You have a fucked up attitude with your responses and your internet tough guy name calling shit is old. Just don't bother.
I don't care at all if you disagree with me, that's nothing. But your disagreements are classless and insult -based. How posters express themselves about people they have no control over, like BB players, is one thing, but you like to get personal, and show your lack of respect for others on this site constantly.
I'm pretty sure we don't like each other, and I do know you have little or no manners at all. That's how I think you come off.
Let's just say we have no future interaction at all...OK? And leave it at that...skip over my posts and I will gladly do the same on yours.

You have a skewed sense of reality. Maybe I do have a fucked up attitude with responses, but kindly show me where I called you, or even insinuated the calling, of you a name? It didn't happen, except possibly in your mind. Nor did I insult you. I didn't even come close.

Another thing didn't happen, Puig didn't do 100 in an urban area. I can't help it if your reality is wrong. And like I said, he was 6 pounds over his report weight last spring and you make it sound like he's got a Oprah Winfrey weight problem. The press is blowing this up because they don't have any real stories to print.

Look, I don't know you so how can I know if I like you or not? I know this about you, practically every thing you post about the team or players is negative, and I don't deal with negativity well. That's why Koufax and I have had our moments over the years. Skip what you like but I will continue to read and post as I please, at least until the powers that be decide I should be censored.

The real problem here is that you can't handle being corrected, and take it as an insult. Get over it. Your entire rant above is based on misconceptions you have about Puig. He broke the speed limit twice and came in 6 pounds overweight. That's all. That's it. He's young and irresponsible, I get it. How about we give him another season before we condemn his soul to the 9th circle of purgatory?

    Have a nice life cycle.

As usual, your post is way off base, and the psychoanalytical aspect of it just shows how much you think of yourself.
    Zeus?
I'm not ignorant to think my posts are flawless and at times wrong. As you gets older, you realize you miss shit, and sometimes the generation gap leaves more of a chasm than you know, or wish to have. But I can recognize self righteousness. And I'm entitled to disagree. And be negative if I so deem.
You can think it's what you say about me as the reason; personally I read your responses to others mean-spirited and conceited, and I think your humor is , well non-existent....certainly not on the level you think it is.
"Have a nice life cycle"? What a low life statement... What is that classification then, not an insult? You can't help yourself.
It's not about Yasiel and his antics, or the expanded wasitline: that's just a fan's reaction to a Dodger thing- mine and yours are both 180 from each other. That's OK; what does it really matter? That's what this website is for, IMO, disagreeing and discussing differences of opinion. Not pastrami sandwiches or my negativity. Are you the pessimism thread Nazi?
It's your habit of coming back at people you disagree with venom and sarcasm-towards the poster - because he feels opposed to what you do. You are insult based and condescending- it's there in black and white, and certainly not with me only.
You can't seem to grasp the concept-it's not my facts, or (possibly incorrect) info, or difference of opinion-it's you and your abrasiveness and classless, smart aleck schoolyard drivel.
I think a lot of many guys on here...gentleman, really. I admire nothing about you... and I know -you don't care. That's good. Perfect.
People always disagree here, and there's a way to do it with diplomacy and tact. You totally lack. You're more interested in the sarcastic "quality" of the dismissal, by far.
Finally, I'll ask you once again, with a measure of courtesy and respect to just ignore me totally. A request without name calling or self absorbed dismissivemess or pseudo - psychological sarcasm like you seem to enjoy so well.
I never told you what to read here; I was simply asking you to ignore me. Like a gentleman.

    Like I said...

Show me the insults and name calling. I have yet to see it.

And you see the line "Have a nice life cycle" as being an 'internet tough guy'???

    Whatever.
