I'm the biggest critic of showboating and especially Puig...but come the fuck on! It was a walk off HR! His first! He just struck out 3x today. Who the fuck cares if he slide into home? Why? There's always over celebrating on walk offs, but because it's Puig it's suddenly a problem? See, now there IS times Puig is wrong IMO, and that's it. You just don't suddenly make everything he does wrong because of that. That was an epic HR in a tough series against a great team! He gets to celebrate! would it be ok if he threw his helmet 100' in the air like Chipper Jones did before leaping onto home plate his last walk off? Oh it's only ok because he's a "good guy" and a veteran in everybody's eyes. This shit is getting ridiculous. Fuck them and their jealous sorry ass teams.
Sliding into home is cool cause he doesn't get hurt lol. If you don't want him to celebrate, strike him out
True...and that's easy to do. I really cannot believe people are bitching he slid! Man I'd like to fuck their sisters!
He's definitely not the first to slide, I remember someone on the Orioles did that about three-four years ago (Roberts maybe?). But I think some of us are lying to ourselves, people would be pissed if that was done on the Dodgers. I thought that shit was hilarious, but maybe I would have been bitter if that was someone like Parra doing that shit. End result is a win: keep on sliding, player! Say hello to the bad guys!
I wouldn't be pissed about the slide at all. Bat flip...not even that on this one...It was a walk off. He looked more joyous than a show boat. A show boat to me is trying to look badass and staring down the ball/pitcher, while trotting slow, etc. Puig put his hands up in joy, unlike someone like Parra, who literally stops stares (in like the 4th inning) and talks shit on the way into the dugout, among other things. It's all about intent.
When it comes to a walk off, all bets are off. I'd be pissed when someone hits a walkoff against us, but mainly because it means we lost. A lot of people give Puig shit, but you see countless times on other forums where people see celebrating walk offs as just fooling around. Like when the Brewers did that whole falling down bit. People thought it was hilarious. Hell, i thought it was funny, and I hated the Brewers at the time. TB is right. It's about intent. When a player stares you down, he's acting like an asshole. When a player is happy and wants to do something with his teammates, it's not a knock on the other team. People seem to want it both ways: fun and serious. Yet they complain when someone has a little bit of fun, and get mad when someone is too serious. I think we get looked at too much because of being in LA and everyone hates LA. It's the cool thing in sports to hate the teams from Los Angeles.
It's kinda like "I See You". People bitched about it. Fucking AJ Burnett gave Hanley shit for it. But it's not a knock on other teams. It's something the team does to each other as a way of having fun.
I like your post. To add on.. I have a feeling that part of the issue is nobody has seen the Dodgers get such a goldmine in a while they aren't sure how to deal with it. This kid is real and everybody outside of LA is starting to see him on the national stage and are worried. A lot of it is pure jealousy..
Real interesting article on Puig http://deadspin.com/how-the-dodgers-got-baseballs-last-buried-treasure-1721719325
His 10.7 WAR has literally already justified 42 million. He's already earned his entire contract. Bumping this was really stupid.
its cool catching up what you all thought about pivotal moves made through these last couple years....How does majority feel about the new front office ?
