I honestly think the way everyone on the team defends him like he’s an invalid just back from a war and not a hundred millionaire who chokes up every opportunity given to him makes me hate the entire thing twice as much.
Didn't watch this one. Learned from a text that we lost. Really bummed that we got embarrassed. At least last year we looked like we belonged in the WS This feels horrible
There's gotta be players on the team that they don't interview who so badly want to say "This motherfucker has consistently choked away our series"
There are about 5 players that have room to even say that. Baez, Buehler, Hill, and maybe Puig and Turner. the rest can shut the fuck up because they choked too.
Cody - 4.2 WAR - .063 CT3 - 4.1 WAR - .143 Kiké - 3.2 WAR - .133 Yaz - 3.3 WAR - .200 Machado - 5.7 WAR - .182 Joc - 2.3 WAR - .083 Muncy - 4.2 WAR - .235 I’m out, good night
Need a big makeover. Especially guys like Jansen and Kershaw. (jansen can stay but not as a closer)This franchise cannot carry this failure into another season. The weight from the choking and losing the way they did will always be with these guys as long as they are with us. They had a chance to redeem themselves from completely choking last year and they didnt. time to go out and get some fresh blood, play the young guys more and of course establish a consistent lineup.
Yasmani having a higher avg than Cody, Taylor, Enrique, Manny, and Joc is so fucking funny and sad. When you lay it out like that, you really do see it was a team wide shit out there.
How about when I add that those 7 guys combined for 27 oWAR this season, which alone would’ve been 7th in baseball
Last year, I couldn't begin to think about April. This time, I think I can... It's still difficult, and I'm sure I will feel sadness and bitterness about losing again But I'm only mad at Clayton and Kenley in this moment. Not even Dave anymore, really. Clayton and Kenley are the ones who've caused us historical embarrassment I hope time will heal this pain, I will be able to avoid seeing clips of this season, and I can start next year with optimism and a better attitude. A lot to process. As much shit as I have talked on Dave this week, I think he should stay. I don't think he's the problem and I hope he learns. BUT, we need accountability somewhere. Some changes. I'd like to see an emphasis on CONTACT and OBP. Verdugo, Seager, Turner is a start. Muncy is good OBP and Power. But they have a lot of work to do to fill out the rest of the lineup. Might have to fire Turner Ward as a scapegoat gesture to the fans, but it's really up to the front office to give them complete players. Less swing and miss. Platooning half the positions has to stop. Also...SPEND. They punted a bit to get under the luxury tax and if they don't spend this season, what a waste. On one hand, it's remarkable what the F.O. has done in terms of where this team is. It's not their fault the stars choked (Kersh, Kenley, Machado, Darvish, etc.). On the other hand, it was a boring team. Too many streaky half-players. And nobody wants to watch that.
This team painted itself into a corner this year. They have an aging ace that has cemented his reputation as a post season failure......that won’t get any better in my opinion.....and may hold the Dodgers with a bad long term contract. They have a closer that can no longer be trusted on an expensive contract. They have a 3rd baseman who isn’t that young on an expensive contract. They have an oft injured short stop, and a big time FA short stop that doesn’t hussle. They have no answer at catcher. They have streaky RF and CF hitters that fade when it counts. No second baseman worth keeping. And the management did nothing to rectify the pitching situation while at least some of these people had some life left in them. So I feel we really have no choice left but to blow this up. Which makes me think, why did we try to stay below the luxury tax this season anyway if this is the last iteration of this lineup? Does Harper next year fix this? What SP has post season balls we can get in the off season? I mean go all out when that window is open why don’t you. Now it’s too late. Or maybe this is what the Guggs wanted. Dick tease the fans but don’t really go for it. Then blow it up Marlins style and pocket the change. Who knows. Just baffling what the FO was thinking this season, especially before the season began.
I predict he doesn’t opt out. And he will give a bullshit reason like, “I have unfinished business here... I want to play my whole career for this historic franchise” Honestly, it is what it is. He’s a workhorse who eats innings when healthy, and can rack up wins. These next 2 years we will get a low tax % hit, so we can absorb the salary, and he might make a decent #3 in the postseason who can give us 4-5 innings and keep the game within reach. The problem will be if the coaching staff refuses to treat him that way, and leans on him expecting him to matchup with another ace and go 7 innings.
These are cumulative players. They are good in context and make their mark over the course of 162. But their floors are as low as their ceilings are high. When the sample size shrinks, these are the players you can't rely on. Their rate of success in hitting is too low. Need complete players. Seager and Turner is a start but JT is getting older.
I have to think he would be stupid to opt out and try the FA market with his post season history. But if he stays somehow, he should not be a Game 1 starter.....ever. He should be pulled immediately in signs of trouble. Do not trust him.....ever! I’m just hoping someone in the farm like Buehler will come up and have a one two punch with Buehler. And I hope the FO learns its lesson and actually spends for front line pitching instead of picking up “bargains”, “value”, or junk yard rehab projects. And perhaps hire away someone like Bouchey....someone who can actually manage a post season series.
But like, how do they ALL perform at that floor at the same time while Steve Pearce wins World Series MVP?
last year when Charlie Culberson hit 8 for 18 with 4 extra base hits during the playoffs, we shouldve known the key to winning is apparently throwing scrubs out there and letting them shine.
Harper isn't fixing the problem, he is the same as Machado and Grandal. He'll get his walks and get his homers but he ain't gonna hit for average. We need guys that can hit not for just power but can put the ball in play when it counts, hit the ball in the gaps a lot, etc.
