They also clear EA and Guerrero and a couple others I believe. They can get in the 40-50 range. Perhaps they just keep Ethier and go with a another cheaper part timer in free agency. Zobrist will be in that 15-20MM range most likely and he can still start 50-60 in the OF. But they've already shown interest in O'Day too, so it's tough to say how hard that 200MM number really is. Stands to reason that they could work it and still solve 3 key areas.

    • Market Notes: Soria, Utley, Desmond, Jones
    • Five or six clubs have expressed interest in signing Chase Utley as a “mostly everyday infielder,” agent Joe Wolfe tells Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News (Twitter link). The Dodgers are one of those teams, per the report (and as suggested previously). Utley would probably be best served as a platoon option at this point, though he’d presumably see plenty of action if he gets most of the time against right-handed pitching.

@jcrasnick: Heard today that the #Dodgers are pursuing Darren O'Day "big time.'' It was the 2nd person in a week to mention it.

O'Day is the kind of domino that could set everything in motion for the pitchers market, not just for non-closers like Clippard, Madsen etc, but also for the starters because you have to figure if someone is to spend $30M+ on him, they will be in on a starter or two as well.

Yeah, but if your teammates want you to go out and get hammered there's something more there

I listened to the interview and he pretty much said Kershaw said that.

Here's the link for anyone who wants to judge for themselves (starts around 2:00): http://www.insidestlaudio.com/Pressbox/111915-3PB.mp3.

Does anyone think Kershaw is the kind of guy who would make requests like this? I don't believe it. Plus I haven't seen any reports or on my favorite site trade rumors. On the Doug Gotlieb radio program he says the Dodger players hate Yasiel which is a strong word. This whole thing is stupid. I'm not saying I have insider information but Yasiel doesn't come accross to me at least to be such a disruptive force in the locker room. You certainly can't say he was the cause of us losing in the playoffs but maybe the players do? We'll see but I still support Yasiel Puig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could I see him making a request like that? Yes, it is widely known that he (Puig) and Zack didn't get along, so as a way of keeping Zack around I could see the best player on the team making it known (in confidence) that he doesn't care for Puig either.

i could more see CK making that comment in what he thought was a circle of friends
maybe something like "if they asked me what i would do i'd trade puig while he still has value" and SVS repeats it to AVS and...
lesson here is there is no such thing as a circle of friends and if you don't want it repeated don't say it

So why did Clayton sign that extension? He knew Yasiel is signed for another 3 or 4 years I forget which so that doesn't make sense to me. Now as far a pitcher who only starts every 5 days being the best player on the team IDK about that but I digress. With all this media scrutiny in this day and age I cannot see such upheaval not being being widely reported, sure there were scattered reports but hating a player, that is pretty serious. May not like his work ethic but that is harsh. It's not a requirement to like everyone you work with so just get over it. If that's a demand for him to sign here then I don't have the same respect for Zack that I did before. I'll work with my hated nemesis for $30 million dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy Van Slyke implies Clayton Kershaw wants Yasiel Puig off the Dodgers

It's officially rumor season for Major League Baseball. During the couple of weeks that exist between the World Series and the winter meetings, crazy rumblings begin to emerge from all types of sources.

The latest gossip comes courtesy of former big leaguer Andy Van Slyke. Van Slyke appeared on St. Louis radio, where he may have dropped too much information while discussing something he heard.

We like to imagine current Dodger Scott Van Slyke performing a facepalm gesture and saying "Daaaaaad" when he heard about this.

So, yeah, bad form here by the elder Van Slyke. You can't just say "the highest paid player on the Dodgers" and expect people to have no idea who you're talking about. You can say "a prominent player on the Dodgers," and that at least leaves people guessing.

We also have no idea whether this is true. Van Slyke's son, Scott, does play for Los Angeles, so it's possible he may have told his dad about this. At the same time, Andy Van Slyke isn't in the rumor/beat writer business, so it's tough to fully run with this story.

[Elsewhere: Hard work and confidence lead Dallas Keuchel to unlikely Cy Young award]

It's also worth noting that if Yasiel Puig were traded, Scott Van Slyke would likely see a boost in playing time. You can't blame a father for trying to get his kid a bigger opportunity, can you?

The whole thing is absurd. Andy Van Slyke is basically spreading his son's workplace rumors to the national media. Scott is probably embarrassed, and now the Dodgers have to perform some level of damage control.

Way to go, dad! You ruined everything!

If CK really said it or whatever it was probably on behalf of others as well.
I'm not really even surprised by this report tho.
Look at all the Dodgers reported interest in young, high caliber arms as of late.

    The question now is.

Where is SVS going to end up?
