Ok, what everyday player on this team is at an elite level at his position the way Kershaw is among pitchers? Nobody.

The rest of it is all speculation, we don't know any of these people personally and Molly Knight's "The Best Team Money Can Buy" as a close as we will ever get, why fight over hypotheticals? I will say one thing though, he signed that extension even if he didn't really wanna be in LA because you don't walk away from $215M when he could have torn up his elbow and/or shoulder the very next day.

He would have gotten a ton on the FA market and it would pale in comparison to his current salary so I'm not buying that reason. The reason I don't believe Kershaw feels that way is because it would make him a huge hyocrite espousing Christian values and hating Yasiel. What ever happened to turn the other cheek? Lol. STILL have to remember Yasiel is a 24 year old who was all of a sudden thrust into the spotlight and got a ton of money compared to the 3rd world country he grew up in. He's already showing signs of maturing by losing weight and working out so why would you give up on a guy so early. As for Zack, he said the most money was the reason he signed his last contract so I believe it will again be the determining factor. You're right about all of this being speculation however. As for Molly Knight, she's no Woodward and Bernstein. Agree to disagree on this whole convo. Time will tell and actions speaks louder than words. Enjoyed it brother.

    Fuck it.

    Trade Kershaw for:

A Syrian All Star, a raft, a Cuban cigar, a south African school, a Cuban all star, a black rhino horn, a pound of elephant meat, some Palestinian souls, two elephant tusks, Opening night tickets to Star Wars at IMAX, and a magic carpet so Farhan can get the fuck out of dodge in a hurry when all hell breaks loose.

You're still not getting it, I was speaking hypothetically. You think if he needed Tommy John at that point (that's why pitchers take less and eliminate the risk) and misses 2014 he gets $215M on the open market? No he doesn't, Zimmerman this winter will be the first TJ victim to sign a 9-figure deal. That's why you take the deal even if you don't really wanna be there.

As for the rest, maybe I am just spinning it to what I want, I would rather see Puig gone and a young arm (be that Carrasco, or someone we haven't heard about being available yet) brought in.

I think the Puig/CLE deal happens. The manager situation in CLE is a better fit for a Puig. I'd think a deal would be sending multiple players both ways. Perhaps CLE has a DH spot for Guerrero.

If we trade puig, you'd have to think signing zobrist is a lock

Not really. If they really want to get younger, I would think Heyward would be a better idea

Heyward is a better, younger player sure, but the team isnt spending 200 mil on a player when the team is trying to cut the payroll to 200 mil.

Yeah I mean in a couple years, CC, Ethier, and Gonzalez are off the books. So I don't think it's as crazy as people think it is.

The Puig stuff is hopefully false just cause it gets me sad more then anything. You don't wanna believe it's true and that they'd have to rid of him for stuff like that and that he could just function with everyone else. Cause, in my opinion, he's the funnest position player on the team. Not necessarily the guaranteed best, or most valuable, but the funnest to watch. And perhaps that's not the most important thing on the team, but it makes 162+ games easier to get through. Lots of smoke though, so I could see him getting moved easily and probably for legit reasons, just sucks cause you'd hope most moves could be made for on field reasons only

He was my favorite player coming into 2015. Absolutely love watching Puig play.

I can't stand Puig, honestly. But I don't want to give him up for what's being speculated.

Like what others have said, I don't mind if they trade him for pitching and then sign J-Hey.

Yeah, maybe. I want Heyward a lot.

But I feel we need someone who is a real HR threat in the middle of the order as well.

Collectively, this is a very good offensive team with some thump. But I really think if we had a superstar power hitter, it would be the missing piece to the puzzle. Too bad Stanton, Harper, Goldschmidt and the Blue Jays roster aren't available :( I'm done with Gonzo being the flagship 3-4 'masher' for us

I am trying to think of the big contracts we have given out to top free agents and the only one I can think of is Zack Greinke, but before that, was it Kevin Brown? They really aren't there. Possibly Derek Lowe, but besides that, ehh, not really much.

Not so much a HR threat, but I want a guy in the middle of the order that is going to hit over .300 with RISP

The difference between having Zobrist and Heyward is basically a 205MM payroll and 210-215MM payroll. If they sign Greinke for 30AAV, Zobrist for 15-18AAV, and probably O'Day for 8-9AAV it'll be adding anywhere from 53-57MM in payroll. So in that scenario they land somewhere around a 205-210MM payroll in all.

If it's the scenario where they go Heyward over Zobrist then you're talking 24-25AAV for Heyward and the overall payroll number possibly sitting where around 212-217MM. Not an exact number of course because we don't know the final numbers since they haven't cleared Ethier/Crawford/Guerrero/etc. yet, but roughly around there.

Based on what the man said about the payroll being closer to 200MM I'd say Zobrist is a better bet right now, but there's still a sizable gap between 300+MM and 215MM. And I mean the tax threshold still sits at 189MM, so they're gonna be above it regardless if they spend on a front line starter and sign O'Day as well. Or then again, maybe they just find their #2 starter in a Puig trade and then spend big on an outfielder or possibly two. CK could be angling to have Greinke back tho.
