I'm a day late on the Roberts/Ohtani discussion, but how in the world did Scarecrow miss that memo? I mean we're all aware that he's incredibly dense, but everyone and their mother knows that Ohtani has said he won't sign with anyone who talks about his meetings.

Count me among those who would rather see the money spent over three other impact signings, so I don't care... other than the fact that it serves as just another example of how big a moron we have leading the team.

Regardless of Shohei Ohtani's decision, the #Dodgers need to acquire starting pitching -- in multiples. If they commit a half-billion dollars to a DH/rehabbing starter, it might take a trade to acquire a front-of-the-rotation, established starter.

At this point Yamamoto should be the Dodgers top target, and it will be an embarrassment if they fail to ink him. They have the money, he's said they've been his favorite team, and they're in one of just a few cities less than 10 hours from Tokyo. Last offseason we watched as they did very little, with the expectation that they were positioning to go big after Ohtani this year. Well things change... with his injury he's not the same player he was last year, and with Urias, May, Gonsolin, and Buehler either gone or not knowing what we can expect, the need for a front of the rotation starter has spiked. Take that "positioning" that was created for Ohtani and put it towards a greater need, and Yamamoto is the top option there. Re-sign JD, add another bat and a few more support pieces, and we'll be in pretty good shape. Then can Davey Dumb Dumb and we might actually get somewhere this year.

So the Dodgers spent 2 years saving money and refusing to upgrade the team only to miss out on the guy they did all of that for...lol.

Comical franchise.

 

I didn't like it last year when they went cheap just to set up for this season. I still read conflicting information on whether they were able to reset the luxury tax base or if they barely were over the threshold. If they were over, that's just lame, considering they didn't make any big signings. Even lamer when Scarecrow and Co. fell flat on their face in the postseason.

But here we are, nevertheless, with money to spend this year. If Ohtani was still a two-way player, I'd be bummed with this rumor that he's leaning towards Blue Jays. As it is, though, I'm glad. Let another team take on the 600 mill. That said, if we allow another team to sign Yamamoto out from under us, I'll be pissed. If we sign him, it will begin to take away some of the sting from the debacle that last season was.
